About Haley
I started on this journey in personal tax preparation and quickly moved into bookkeeping, corporate tax and financial statement preparation. In my early years as an accounting technician, I spent some time working in a boutique accounting firm, which exposed me to a wide array of clients. I discovered that I had an aptitude for explaining tax and accounting concepts in a way that was accessible to my clients so they could feel that they were a part of the process rather than blindly leaving their finances in our firm’s hands.
After several more years working in the accounting department of an advertising agency, I was encouraged to pursue my passion and build my own business.
Upstart Consulting was founded in 2016 to do just that—empower my clients to make smart moves for their business knowing all the facts about their financial situation and getting the most from their returns come tax season.

Are you certified?
Yes. The Certified Professional Bookkeeper designation through CPB Canada demonstrates that I have the experience and education necessary to obtain the designation and that I continue to uphold the standards to maintain the designation.
Currently, bookkeeping does not require a designation in Canada, therefore designation is completely voluntary. CPB Canada is working towards establishing professional standards for the industry so you as a client can trust that you have hired the right professional for the job.
Should I do all my bookkeeping and taxes in one place?
It depends on who you work with. Some bookkeepers do not have the experience or choose not to prepare tax returns, so make sure you choose a certified professional who is able to help you with all of your financial needs. I am able to do both bookkeeping and tax preparation for my clients looking to keep all of their financial information in one place.
